Equipment

As resident button pusher here at Bertram Studios, I thought it would be worthwhile taking you through the some of processes and hardware we use.
I'm not going to waffle on about how great it is, because it isn't.
It's cheap, old, and unreliable.

As the ASIO driver and audio interface, we have the TonePort UX1. A cheap Soundcard with a dodgy output knob. It's unstable and sounds like shit.

The DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) we use is Steinberg's Cubase SX. Although very dated now, it's pretty stable and isn't too CPU intensive on my old Compaq CQ60. The CQ60 is rickety and has keys missing and the fan doesn't work so it regularly overheats.

We have two microphones, a Shure SM57 and a Shure SM58. Great for gigging, but a half decent condenser mic would do a much better job.
One of my favourite gadgets is the BOSS Micro BR. A digital four track with built in mic and COSM effects built in. It records straight to SD card so it's really handy. The reverb sounds great and it has many guitar effects. Again, that has restrictions as I blew the AC input and have to use AA batteries. It goes through them at an alarming rate,

There is a cheap Oxygen 8 MIDI two octave keyboard that isn't going to inspire anybody. It works through the USB port on the laptop. I use this for any VSTs and sometimes to trigger drum samples.

All in all, it's often a thankless, frustrating process, which I love dearly.
Hopefully in time I'll be able to upgrade these archaic instruments and in turn, slow down the balding process.
